About This Spot

Stepping into Highlands Detroit is like entering a serene, elevated retreat above the city's familiar rhythm. Nestled on the 71st floor of the Renaissance Center, this restaurant offers more than a meal—it offers a moment suspended above Detroit’s skyline, where time slows and the hum of everyday life feels distant. The atmosphere gently balances elegant calm with an intimate warmth, inviting you to settle into a rarefied space that feels personal despite its soaring views.

The experience here unfolds with quiet confidence. It's a place where thoughtful service quietly anticipates needs without ever rushing, allowing guests to savor each bite and each glance out over the shimmering cityscape below. The pacing encourages lingering conversations and small celebrations, where human connection takes center stage alongside a menu crafted with care and precision.

Highlands Detroit’s culinary offerings embody a refined approach to familiar and unexpected flavors. The dishes arrive not just as food but as carefully composed moments—whether it's the delicate freshness of tuna crudo or the richness of a perfectly cooked wagyu steak. Sweets like velvety creme brulee and light macarons punctuate the meal with touches of playful indulgence. Each plate carries a quiet artistry that complements the natural theater outside the windows.

This is the kind of spot where attentive, heartfelt service makes a genuine impression—from servers who guide gently through the menu, adding their personal touches, to leadership that quietly shares in guests' celebrations. While some may find the setting a little intimidating at first, especially with the glass elevator ride hinting at the heights to come, the reward is an intimate sense of discovery framed by one of the city’s most breathtaking perspectives.

Ultimately, Highlands Detroit feels less like a traditional dining destination and more like a carefully curated chapter in a city story—an invitation to slow down, share meaningful moments, and enjoy thoughtfully composed flavors while gazing out onto Detroit’s evolving skyline.

Hands down the best experience I've had at a restaurant in a while. My husband and I decided to splurge on our one year marriage anniversary and it was the correct choice. Jennie went absolutely above and beyond and honestly just such a joy to have take care of us and explain the menu. The General Manager took the time to visit us and congratulate us on our anniversary as well as the Chef Kyle for visiting our table. Thank you for giving us such a memorable experience. The food was exceptional and we are excitedly planning our next visit!

If you look for an amazing experience with outstanding food and unforgettable customer service you should check this restaurant. It’s been a while since I had such a delicious wagyu tartare! Steaks, desserts; everything was absolutely delicious! Thank you so much for your high quality service! People like you make guests come back! I’ve already bought Riesling which you recommended!

Went to Highlands Detroit for my birthday, located on the 72nd floor of the GM building. I must say, this is one of the most incredible places I've been to in the city. The ambiance is amazing, the food is amazing, the drinks are top tier, and the views.. IMMACULATE - 10/10.

Didnt get to eat but the service, views and drinks did not disappoint. The menu sounded great but was certainly on the higher end side. Would love to go back and dine on a future visit for.sure. If you are close and the weather is clear go up for the views! PS- its not easy to find the elevator and it is glass all the way up so be ready for a little adventure to get there.

Food was average at best, none of it was worth the cost. Our service was phenomenal, she was bubbly and had a great attitude(blonde hair don’t remember her name), she took pictures of us and was great. The service was 10/10. The food was 6/10.

We absolutely love the Highlands for a high-end meal with excellent service. The executive chef is incredibly gifted and the menu is a masterpiece. It’s like an art form. Our servers were incredibly attentive and accommodating—we had to leave quickly because of an emergency with the children at home, and they were very quick to gather everything to help us leave promptly. The expert wine pairing is certainly worth it. It goes without saying that the view is second to none. Please do yourself a favor and make this restaurant a priority to visit!

Celebrating office holiday party. Wine pairings were lacklustre. Our server was entertaining but the sommelier wasn't engaging. A nice view, but something seems forced. The lounge area chair I sat in was broken. Nice for the view but likely won't return
